Allowances scheme

The document below sets out the current scheme for councillors' allowances.

It is Part 6 of the Council's constitution.

The basic allowance is given to every councillor to cover the expenses and time associated with their work.
Special responsibility allowances are paid to councillors who have positions of responsibility (Cabinet members and chairmen of committees).

Other allowances are paid to cover travel expenses, child/adult dependent care, and meals if permitted.

There are rules about making claims and rules about what expenses can be claimed for.

Council decides at its December meeting what scheme will operate from 1 April the following year.
