The Thame Town Plan commits to keep our shops together in the heart of the community - the Town Centre. This is the best way to support our local shops and maintain the vitality and viability of our Town Centre.
An independent survey has demonstrated that Thame does not need another very large supermarket and an edge of town superstore would undermine the vitality and viability of our town centre shops.
Allowing a large superstore to be built on the edge of Thame would render the Town Plan irrelevant and demonstrate that local neighbourhood plans are pointless. On the other hand if this application is refused not only would Thame Town Centre continue to thrive and remain the heart of our community but it would demonstrate that local people are empowered to shape their surroundings.
Local residents overwhelmingly backed the Town Plan via a referendum and now we ask Thame Town Council and South Oxfordshire District Council to honour our plan and refuse Tesco's out of town supermarket.
