Petition for Traffic Safety Measures on Halifax Road & Nosworthy Road Wallingford

We the undersigned petition the council to I am submitting this petition to request urgent traffic safety measures at the junction of Halifax Road and Nosworthy Road in Wallingford to protect all road users, including families from the new housing estate and employees at the nearby CABI office. The increased traffic from the new development has made this junction even more hazardous, with frequent near-misses and growing concerns from residents and workers. To improve safety, I propose either a left-turn-only restriction on Halifax Road to prevent dangerous right turns or a reduced speed limit on Nosworthy Road to slow approaching vehicles. Many families, including children, now use this area daily, and CABI employees rely on safe access to their workplace. I urge the council to conduct a formal safety review and implement these measures to prevent accidents and ensure a safer environment for everyone.

This issue is urgent and requires immediate attention to prevent further damage and life-threatening situations. The current state of the Halifax Road and Nosworthy Road junction poses a significant risk to the safety of all road users, especially with the growing number of families in the new residential estate, children, and workers at the nearby CABI office. As someone who has personally experienced the dangers of this junction, I know just how quickly a situation can escalate. The lack of time for vehicles to safely navigate across lanes when turning right is a clear hazard, and the disparity in speed limits between the 20mph residential area and the national speed limit on Nosworthy Road only exacerbates the danger. CABI employees who rely on this junction daily are also at risk, as they must navigate this hazardous area when commuting to and from work. I fear that without swift action, more accidents will occur, and the consequences could be far worse next time. Every day that passes without intervention increases the risk of serious injury or even fatalities. We cannot afford to wait any longer; immediate changes are needed to ensure the safety of children, workers, and families in our community. The time to act is now before this issue claims more lives or causes irreversible damage to our community members.
