Cuttle Brook Local Nature Reserve Management Committee

Description

We are a group of volunteers who help to manage the Cuttle Brook Local Nature Reserve (LNR) in conjunction with Thame Town Council.

We usually meet on the third Sunday and last Wednesday of every month to do seasonal tasks on the reserve and, occasionally, special projects .

Tasks are often physical, but there is good disabled access on the reserve and we encourage volunteers of all ages and abilities, as there is always something that somebody can do.

Tasks can include:

  • Repairing paths and boardwalks
  • Maintaining and creating habitats for wildlife
  • Surveying wildlife: Birds; Bats; Butterflies; Flora
  • Managing the reed beds
  • Litter picking
  • Hedge laying
  • Shrub/tree planting
  • Mowing and strimming paths
  • Monitoring and managing hydrology, especially on the reed beds

We also meet formally four times per year to plan the work parties and discuss matters concerning the reserve and volunteers. These planning meetings are open to all volunteers and are overseen by a small core committee.

There is an informal, monthly pub meeting on the Wednesday prior to the Sunday work party. This is also open to all, and is more of a social to get together to discuss the coming work party.
